【Tote bag of The Emblem of Taiwan during the Nippon Period】
During the Japanese era from 1895 to 1945, each city in Taiwan developed their own emblems. All created and selected by citizens themselves, these emblems demonstrated different design features across the eras of Meiji, Taisho, and the prewar period of Showa. Taking inspiration from place names, Chinese characters, and local landscapes, these beautifully designed emblems not only carry the youthful memories of Taiwan’s older generation but bear witness to the flourishing of cities in Taiwan under the Japanese rule.
With these beautiful emblems, we seek to pass on the historical memories of Taiwan’s cities to the future generation.
The product comes with an introductory booklet that can help users get a quick grasp of the meaning and cultural value of these city emblems. It is hoped that the tote bag, when put into use, can draw attention and stimulate discussion among users’ social networks to make as many people as possible aware of Taiwan’s history and cultural prowess.
The most remarkable points:
1. Original eyelet hole for hanging “OMAMORI” (Japanese lucky charms)
2. Thoughtfully designed zipper
3. One exterior side pocket
4. Two interior side pockets
5. The product is 100 % made by artisans based in Tainan, whose canvas bags are well-received by local and oversea customers.
6. All the information about city emblems is collected through a rigorous study.
7. We work directly with the bag manufacturer to avoid exploitation by contractors. By doing so, we give the profits directly to the producer.
